                               The period of Victoria who becomes the Queen of England at a very young, approved the art to flourish in every way, later became a symbol for the age and so the age is known as the Victorian Age. English Literary Historian William J Long calls the period as

“THE MODERN PERIOD OF PROGRESS AND UNREST”

                              The sixty years (1830- 90) commonly included under the name of Victorian has largely produced great authors whose ideal theme was Realism and Social concerns. Apart from the authors, this age is also remarkable for the two major poets.

“Poetry during this period was chiefly lyric or episodic in character.”
