Mandaliya Sir.
A very thoughtful expert lecture was organized by
Dr. Dilip Barad Sir at Department of English, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji
Bhavnagar University.
Indeed, it was an insightful lecture on Metaphysical
Poetry as Dr R K Mandaliya Sir from Sardar Patel University, Vallabh
Vidhyanagar explained to us the naming of metaphysical poets to a group of
poets writing in a particular style by Dr. Samuel Johnson and form of
Metaphysical Poetry with precision and expertise. Sir firstly defined the
form and then stated the reasons for the emergence of Metaphysical School.
Sir added the chief characteristics of Metaphysical poetry and briefly
discussed major writers with the pioneer John Donne.
I highly value Sir's style of teaching. In a very
lucid way, Sir emphasized on two poems 'The Sun Rising' and ‘Death Be Not Proud’.
Sir explained all his points by illustrating it with #Cinema.
"Literature and Cinema both are
associated with each other" - Mandaliya Sir.
Sir suggested some of the classic films worth to
watch. One of them which Sir suggested was "Jaagte Raho" (genre- Black humor)
Raj Kapoor's film where Chaplin's myth is reborn and it's the film that
followed all three Unites stated by #Aristotle.

#Day_2
By Dr R. K.
Mandaliya
Mandaliya Sir very deliberately discussed three
other poems of the Metaphysical Poet- John Donne. He was the most independent
of Elizabethan poets.
#The Flea is
a remarkable example of John Donne's metaphysical poetry. The central theme of the poem is 'expression of #love' demonstrated through the image of an insect. The speaker tries to convince his beloved to unite with him as the
flea is a symbol of their blood becoming one and killing the flea would be
#sacrilege, “three sins in killing three.”
Mandaliya sir explained the poem in the light of
#Hero and Leander, a poem by Christopher Marlowe and George Chapman.
▪︎ #The Dream is a comparison between life in #dream
and life in #reality. The poet conveys that life, in reality, can never be so much interesting and joyful as life in dream and fantasy. The lines which
reflects the central theme of the poetry are-
"Fantasy is queen and soul, and all;
For, all our joys are but fantastical.
And so I 'scape the pain, for pain is true;"
DrJay Mehta Sir joined the class and
made it very interactive by connecting several classic films with the theme
of the poem like #Hakikat and #Silsila.
▪︎ #Sweetest Love- I do not go is a lyric about
separation. The speaker conveys that those who love never actually dies, the only death in the journey of love is Separation. Mandaliya Sir discussed this with #Parallel_Cinema film movement. #Kalakaar, #Amar_Prem and #Safar
were in light in his discussion on these five stanza lyric.
In short, Mandaliya Sir's method of teaching is
highly effective as it maintains the focus of all students on
#Metaphysical_Poetry throughout the session.

#Final_Session
The last session of #Metaphysical Poetry ended
with a discussion of the poem #The Ecstasy. It is a poem about abstract
feeling or idea of oneness in sublime love.
Mandaliya Sir explained the poetry taking into
account the reference of #The_Guide (novel by #R K Narayan and later adapted
as a film by #Devanand)
"We then, who are this new soul, know,
Of what we
are composed, and made,
For th' atomies of which we grow
Are souls,
whom no change can invade."
The idea of conscience in John Donne's poem 'The
Ecstasy' can be reflected in the Raju's words in 'The Guide'.
I heartily thank Dr. R K Mandaliya Sir for spending
his valuable time with us in discussing Metaphysical Poetry and Dr. Dilip
Barad Sir for his efforts for us in providing knowledge from the best of
brains.
