Today, Indian Red Cross Society- Bhavnagar district branch organized a felicitation programme at Old Court Hall, MKBU, in the honour of curb thalassemia movement.

The Indian Red Cross is a voluntary humanitarian organization and is actively engaged with various institutes to eliminate minor thalassemia and to spread awareness regarding the disease. There are a total of four clinics in Bhavnagar. The major activities which are carried by this society are thalassemia disaster management, TB control project etc.

The programme began with a lamp lightening by eminent guests.

#Mr_Ashok_Shailu warmly greeted everyone and congratulated Red Cross Society- for their service.

▪︎Honorable Shree #Hareshbhai_Patel-Bhavnagar district collector and president of Indian society, Bhavnagar inaugurated the programme.

#Mr_Rohit provided a brief note on kidney, and how it works. Further in his informative talk he added information on kidney transplant, dialysis and diabetes as well as blood pressure. The nephrons in the kidney plays a vital role in the failure of kidney. Allergy in Urinary system can also affect kidney.

As it is said that,

"Prevention is better than cure."

So the measure to prevent this is

Drink lots of water
Avoid consuming an excessive amount of salt

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder.

Tejas Chandarana, 22 years old shared his experience of how he suffered from thalassemia major with hemoglobin only 3% and also advised all to check and prevent the disease.

Drashti also shared her sufferings on thalassemia that she had 400 bottles of blood transfusion.

▪︎Dr.Millan Dave facilitated Shamaldas arts college with third position for thalassemia elimination program, second being Sir.  P.P.Institute of Science and third Sir. Bhavsinh Polytechnic Institute.

▪︎our Department of English was also awarded for effective participation in elimination of thalassemia.

▪︎Dr.Sumit, vice chairman of state, Indian Red Cross society gave a wonderful speech on this very occasion.

He emphasized to work in group and how it creates a difference. Sir provided a brief survey of Bhavnagar, in year 2002 total 1 lakh 4000 and 17 tests were carried out. Out of that 6700 were detected to be suffering  from iron deficiency and hemoglobin and thalassemia.

▪︎Chairperson #Dr_Mahipatsinh_Chavda, vice chancellor, M.K.Bhavnagar University  gave a very good speech about nobel activity as well as supporting this society and how it feels to the member of thalassemia by developing empathy and sensibility for the patients and he emphasized on maximum screening and thus this is how it can be prevented. Any work can only be possible if we have an a strong will, sir further made his point clear by sharing several anecdotes and an illustration of Muhammad paigambar and scorpion he also emphasized on social responsibility and duty.

In a way, the whole programme was very fruitful. Thankful to Prof. Dr.Dilip Barad sir  for constantly  keeping us updated with all events.
